Micro Laser Peel

MicroLaserPeel TM

What is the MicroLaserPeel?

The MicroLaserPeel is an epidermal peel using an Erbium:YAG  laser.   The treatment is tailored to the individual’s skin type and problem being targeted. Wrinkles, scars, age spots, uneven pigmentation and skin laxity are common reasons for treatment and can be effectively treated.

Who should consider a MicroLaserPeel?

The patient looking for better results than microdermabrasion or light chemical peels and who does not have the time or desire for the downtime involved after deeper chemical or laser peels.

How is a MicroLaserPeel different from Microdermabrasion and other forms of exfoliation?

The MicroLaserPeel is a partial to full epidermal peel (10-50 microns). It is the perfect step between microdermabrasion and deeper peels. The laser peel allows for precise exfoliation for a more controlled and even treatment than other methods of exfoliation.

Microdermabrasion removes approximately 4 microns of the outer layer  of the skin (stratum corneum). Patients may be dissatisfied when the perceived results do not equal expense and the number of procedures required.

CO2 and other ablative lasers and deep chemical peels require more downtime and wound management than Er:Yag MicroLaser peels. There is a higher risk of infection and for adverse events.

How often does a MicroLaserPeel need to be done?

Dr. Terry and staff will personalize your treatment based on your skin type, lifestyle and treatment goals.  You may choose to do a series of 2-4  lighter epidermal peels spaced 6 weeks apart or one deeper resurfacing treatment  once a year.

What can the patient expect?

Smoother, healthier  and more vibrant skin. You will notice a significant and immediate change in skin texture and tightness.

What type of anesthesia is used?

A topical anesthetic is applied at least 30 minutes before the procedure.

Do I have to wear any type of dressing or bandage after the procedure? What is the postcare?

No special dressings are required after the treatment. A postpeel ointment and gentle cleanser are included with your treatment and should be used until you are able to resume your regular skincare  in one to 2 weeks. The postlaser ointment provides moisture and acts as a barrier while  new epithelium/skin cells are regenerated. SPF 30 should be used and avoidance of direct exposure  to the sun.

How long is the healing process?

The healing process varies from patient to patient but will generally take from four days to a week. The procedure can be performed on Thursday or Friday and you can return to work the following Monday. Immediately following the procedure you will look and feel as if you have a bad sunburn. The redness will start to brown in the next 24 hours and the skin with feel tight and may itch. Peeling typically starts on day 2 or 3. It is important not to scratch or pick the treated area. Makeup can be applied once the peeling is completed, which is typically by day 4. Gentle skincare products should be used for 1 week following the treatment and medical strength products reintroduced as tolerated after 2 weeks or after redness and sensitivity have resolved.

What medical conditions exclude treatment?

Pregnancy, active local or systemic infections (such as active herpes breakout), active skin conditions (such as eczema), and use of anticoagulant medications such as warfarin. Consent from your physician must be obtained if you have insulin dependent diabetes, autoimmune diseases or a history of skin cancer in the treatment area.
